EVGA Previews their X79 Classified Motherboard for Sandy Bridge E

With Intel’s new high end Sandy Bridge E architecture right around the corner, several motherboard manufacturers have been slowly unveiling their motherboards which support the 2011 socket.  EVGA is the latest with their highly anticipated X79 Classified E779.
During NVIDIA’s GeForce LAN event, both EVGA and Intel held a joint presentation which previewed the X79 Classified as well as Intel’s new Asetek Sandy Bridge E closed loop liquid cooler.  While details about the Classified in particular are pretty limited and some are of course covered by NDA, we can tell you a few things about it.  Luckily, it seems like EVGA will have this board available soon after (or during) the X79 launch, unlike their P67 and Z68 which were slightly delayed.
Like all X79 boards, the Classified will support quad channel DDR3 and a UEFI BIOS.  EVGA has also added a pair of 8-pin CPU connectors,  100% POSCAP capacitors for stable power delivery, a handy right angled 24-pin connector and onboard Bluetooth.
As you can see from the picture below, this particular X79 board is also chalk full of PCI-E slots and includes native support for 4-way SLI so no more performance-hogging bridge chips need to be included.  SATA 3 support has also been included along with voltage read points, onboard power / reset buttons, eight rear panel USB 3.0 ports, and an included EVBot overclocking tool.
EVGA will also be launching the x79 SLI  E775 and X79 FTW  E777 at the same time as this board for people who don’t want (or need) to spend an absolute fortune on an X79 board. You can see the full presentation in the video below or by clicking here.

Enthusiasts that own one of the listed mainboards1 can now download the update to support the latest AMD AM3+ 8-core CPUs (B2 Stepping). For those planning to purchase a new mainboard, if the box is labeled with “Supports AM3+ CPU with New BIOS,” the mainboard will support the powerful AMD AM3+ 8-core CPUs out of the box. Enthusiasts that have purchased a mainboard that is on the list of compatible mainboards can update the BIOS themselves to support the latest AM3+ 8-core CPUs. Also, new in this BIOS update is official support for MSI’s proprietary ClickBIOS II system optimization tool for all AMD 900 mainboards. The graphical UEFI BIOS provides mainboard-level support, and exporting OC Profiles to USB drives offers unparalleled convenience.
Support for Latest AMD AM3+ 8-core CPUs Out of the Box with Designated Mainboards
Starting today, enthusiasts can purchase MSI mainboards with a “Supports AM3+ CPU with New BIOS” label on the box. The labeling indicates that the mainboard has been updated with the latest BIOS and already supports the AMD AM3+ 8-core CPUs (B2 Stepping), so users can enjoy the extreme performance of the next-generation processors straight out of the box. Buyers of MSI mainboards on the list of compatible models will not need to buy a new mainboard. Once they update to the new BIOS, their mainboard will be ready for AMD AM3+ 8-core CPUs.
ClickBIOS II on all MSI AMD 900 Mainboards
All MSI AMD 900 mainboards now also come with MSI’s proprietary ClickBIOS II UEFI. System settings can be adjusted using the mouse, and the ClickBIOS II utility also supports online driver updates, BIOS updates and full-system backups. Western Digital Shuts Down Facility Due to Floods

Serve flooding in Thailand has caused Western Digital to shutter its manufacturing facilities in Bangkok for an undetermined amount of time.
“The flooding is causing problems with the region’s infrastructure, including transportation and utilities, and has resulted in the inundation of some supplier facilities and employee homes,” Western Digital announced in a statement released today.
Western Digital stressed that conditions are changing rapidly, and the extent of the damage and duration of the shutdown cannot be properly assessed at this time. Any protracted shutdown will likely lead to a supply shortage next quarter.
The company will provide further updates on the situation during a conference call on Wednesday, October 19.
