Hoping to replicate Hewlett Packard’s success in creating interest in a faltering tablet platform, Research in Motion (RIM) has cut the price of all Playbook models to $299 until February 4.
This announcement apparently caused RIM’s BlackBerry Store to crash early Tuesday morning.
RIM’s decision to liquidate their Playbook inventory comes weeks after company executives stated that they would try and be “more aggressive” in promoting the poorly selling tablet. RIM executives said the company would be forced to take a one-time loss of $485 million its BlackBerry PlayBook inventory.
During its third fiscal quarter, RIM shipped 150,000 Playbooks.
